The Napa Valley County Animal Shelter was faced with a unique situation in which funds were quoted for a new animal shelter, however it had to be designed and built within a very short time frame, otherwise the funding would be reallocated. The Architecture Company rose to this challenge by using a prototype design that had been developed earlier and modified it to accommodate the wetter and cooler conditions of Napa County. For example, under-slab vapor barriers and additional slab reinforcing were installed in the Napa County facility, as well as extensions to the canopies of the outdoor dog runs. A more extensive heating system was also provided in the Napa County facility as were changes to the floor plan to comply with the California handicap accessibility code.
